Dogs Sweaters, Sweaters for Dogs, Buying a Dog Sweater

Although your dog’s natural coat is obviously warmer than human skin, still he or she can get cold in winter time, especially a dog who lives in a warm house or apartment. As your dog needs to be walked all year round you can protect him or her from the cold with a dog sweater.

Dogs have to have their daily walk come rain or shine, warm or cold and people who do not own a dog don’t realise some dogs will get cold just like we do in low temperatures. Buying a dog sweater will help keep them warm and dry, especially in late autumn and winter.

Dog sweaters are essentially very similar to the ones we wear ourselves. The sleeves on dogs sweaters, which cover dog’s front legs, are usually a bit shorter.

You can also order totally unique custom designed dog sweaters, or make your own from numerous patterns available. You can make sure your dog is right up to date with the latest fashions or tie your dog’s sweater theme in with your own clothing.

Indeed dog sweaters are frequently a fashion accessory of their owners. Dogs don’t mind wearing their sweater once they used to it, but remember that the reason your dog wears a sweater is to keep him/her warm and dry. So make sure it is a comfortable fit and that it offers proper protection from cold and wet conditions.

The choice of dog sweaters is huge, but not all sweaters are appropriate for your own dog. If you’ve bought before you will probably have no trouble finding the right size and style, but if this is your first time that might not be so easy.

Obviously before you order or purchase a certain dog sweater you should check for correct size.

Find the right size dogs sweaters

You should measure your dog around his/her neck, around his/her waist and the length from neck to tail. Most US dog sweater companies make sweater sizes according to the length from head to tail in inches and in Europe in centimeters. As well as head to tail length, also make sure that the chosen sweater is big enough around the chest and waist for maximum comfort.

Movement should not be limited in any way, but also it mustn’t be too big as your dog might get easily caught on to something while walking and tis could lead to injury.

Also check the material(s) that the dog sweater is made from. Just like us, dogs don’t like all materials and you may want to go for natural fibres which are soft and cozy.

Remember that given the choice your dog would probably prefer not to wear any clothing! It will be very strange to put on a sweater for the first few times so it may take a some time and patience before he or she is comfortable wearing a sweater.

However once your dog is used to their dog sweater he/she will be happy to wear one especially if it is comfortable, soft, warm and dry.
